PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to Council members and to Ratepayers associated with the removal of gravel from ditches as deposited by the Municipality associated with road maintenance operations.

Policy:

Whereas many landowners maintain the Municipality's ditches associated with maintaining their own properties; and

Whereas gravel is routinely deposited into the ditches associated with the Municipality's road maintenance operations; and

Whereas the Municipality has in the past compensated some landowners for the cost of removing gravel from ditches; and

Whereas the Council of the Rural Municipality of Cornwallis appreciates and welcomes that landowners maintain the Municipality's ditches when maintaining their adjacent property, the Council hereby resolves that in the interest of fairness to all taxpayers and as a cost saving measure, it be hereby resolved as follows:

1.      The Municipality will not compensate landowners for the cost of removing gravel from roadside ditches.

2.      The Municipality will not perform or contract for the removal of gravel from roadside ditches, apart from gravel retrieval operations that may be routinely performed as normal maintenance.
