Public Notice: Update on Local Restrictions and Burn Permits
While the Province of Manitoba remains under a state of emergency, the Rural Municipality of Cornwallis will be lifting our local restrictions effective immediately, in light of this week’s forecasted rainfall in our area.
Please be advised, however, that the wildfire situation in northern regions is being closely monitored. As a precaution, all burn permits remain subject to immediate suspension or cancellation without notice, should fire risk conditions deteriorate.
We appreciate your continued patience and understanding during this evolving situation. The safety of our residents and surrounding communities remains our top priority.
For updates, please monitor our website or contact the R.M. office directly.
Stay Safe, Stay Informed.
There are no current burn or travel restrictions in place at this time. However, burning permits are required for outdoor fires set within the burn permit area.
Permits can be acquired at our office Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Burn permits may be cancelled or restricted at short notice if fire danger conditions require.
You do not need a fire permit for the following:
- Enclosed fire pits, fire bowls, chimineas, and other outdoor receptacles that include a:
- Spark arrestor
- Grille or mesh covering all openings
- Solid fuel burning appliances such as:
- Charcoal barbecues
- Smokers
✅ Important:
All outdoor fires must be under constant supervision at all times.
For each new burn, a new burn permit must be acquired from the office.
With the exception of bonfires and barbeques, burning shall be restricted to daytime hours.
For the use of fireworks, please contact the R.M of Cornwallis Office for more information.
